The nationwide treatment and management of sex offenders in forensic outpatient departments

Project duration: 11.2016 - 11.2017

Description

Forensic outpatient structures pursue the goal of reducing permanently the recidivism risk of sex offenders, in order to contribute decisively to the secondary crime prevention. Due to this purpose, the development of outpatient forensic service departments for released sex offenders (or on probation) has been pushed forward.
This project has focused on the investigation of the criminological relevance and preventive effect of extramural treatment and management, on the basis of a nationwide survey of all currently operating forensic outpatient clinics. Structural, treatment-related and, in particular, evaluation-related questions have been addressed, based on which, the overall crime preventive outcome and possible improvements for the future can be estimated.

Methods

Considering the already collected empirical data in related surveys in the Centre for Criminology (KrimZ), a questionnaire has been sent to all forensic outpatient departments in Germany, which conduct exclusively or i.a. the treatment and management of released sex offenders (or on probation). Besides formal-structural aspects, treatment approaches and evaluation related questions have been registered.
