Criminological literature documentation

Since 1986, the Central Office for Criminology has maintained a literature database in the field of German-language criminology. The database is available online for research purposes as the Criminological Literature Database KrimLit. It offers subject-indexed records of criminologically significant contributions on the manifestations of crime, perpetrators and victims, the police, social services, and the correctional system. In addition, it contains numerous documents on overarching topics and issues related to the administration of criminal justice, criminal policy, crime prevention, and internal security.

As of November 2025, the database contains approximately 53,500 records, of which—in addition to the library’s holdings—about 19,600 are entries for criminologically relevant articles with brief abstracts. Currently, articles from 30 journals are being added. KrimLit is part of the Joint Library Network (GBV), so the library’s holdings are also listed in K10plus.

Cooperations

In 2017, the KrimZ started a cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Psychology (ZPID) in Trier. In exchange, essays from the psychological-forensic field will be made accessible.
